Natural Waves of Malaysia : Record-breaking Largest Paddy Art Formation in Malaysia by JATI

Recently, on the 31st August 2026, I was so honoured to witnessed the official ceremony of JATI being officially recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the country’s “Largest Paddy Art Formation”, following its unveiling at the Laman Padi section of the recent Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Show (MAHA) 2026.

JATI, one of Malaysia’s most-loved rice brands, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, has set a new record with a new form of art. Natural Waves of Malaysia, the brand’s sweeping paddy art formation, has been officially recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the country’s “Largest Paddy Art Formation”.

Record-Breaking Artwork- Created 100% from Living Paddy

Measuring 119ft by 126ft, with the JATI logo alone spanning 58.42ft by 19.07ft, the formation was created entirely from living paddy, not paint, dye or synthetic material. Different stages of paddy growth were used to produce the colours and contrast of the design, forming a heart shape alongside the JATI brand name across the field, symbolising the brand’s enduring love for Malaysian rice and the farming communities behind it.

The Launching of Laman Padi at MAHA 2026 & JATI Received MBOR Award

The formation was verified by the Malaysia Book of Records before the record was officially

awarded. The MBOR certificate was subsequently presented by Mr Jwan Heah, COO of MBOR, to

Mr. Low Kok Kean, Chairman of LK Labuan Foundation, who received the certification on behalf of

JATI, in the presence of Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad bin Sabu, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia.

Bringing Natural Waves of Malaysia to life 

Natural waves of Malaysia was inspired by the natural movement of paddy as it shifts and ripples in the wind, forming waves of green and gold and bringing one of Malaysia’s most familiar agricultural crops to life on a remarkable scale.

The process of bringing the formation to life took months of planning and precision. The process began with a coordinate-based design mapped out in AutoCAD, which was then transferred onto the field using

wooden stakes and ropes to guide the planting process and preserve the shape and proportions of the artwork.

With the design mapped, MR 284 paddy seeds were sown directly into the field across three

carefully timed phases, the Yellow Phase, Green Phase and Young Paddy Shoot ( ) stage.

These allow different sections of the crop to mature at different times and produce the natural

colour variations needed for the design to gradually take shape.
